A qualified professional should perform this procedure, as it can be dangerous to the patient and/or the professional performing the procedure.

 

The samples collected are to be used solely for research by a research facility.  However the shipment of animal blood or serum should not be completed where prohibited by law.

 

Should you proceed with the collection of samples or the shipment of samples, you accept responsibility for any accidents or damage to the animal, or professional arising from procedure and forever release Animal Protection Coalition, Inc. from any liability associated with the collection or shipment of collected samples.

 

The instructions below are designed to protect the integrity of our research, not for instructional purposes to unqualified individuals.

 

·        Break seal on needle, screw needle into vacu-tainer sleeve until snug

·        Use alcohol prep pad to prep area sample will be taken from

·        Insert needle into vein

·        Insert green top vacuum tube into vacu-tainer holder pressing firmly until needle pierces rubber tube seal (use caution while pushing vacuum tube - do not push on vacu-tainer sleeve as this will cause the needle to move)

·        When tube is full it will stop filling by itself

·        While firmly holding vacu-tainer needle and sleeve still in horse's vein, remove filled vacuum tube from vacu-tainer sleeve and insert 2nd and 3rd vacuum tube respectively.

·        Remember to mark the tubes with the order they were taken in, as surface contaminants effect testing.

·        After the tubes have been filled remove vacu-tainer shield and needle from vein

·        Carefully package samples in box to protect from breakage

·        Ship to lab with cold pack in package and include any unused items

·        DO NOT SEND VIA US Postal Service (Radiated blood is not viable for testing)

·        Please ship Fed Ex or UPS Overnight delivery
